Student Data and Analytics

I can’t log in. What is going wrong?

If you are attempting to log in to Rally and see an error from your district’s identify provider, for example, an error on a Google, Microsoft, or Classlink screen, this is something to share with your district IT staff. If you are attempting to log in and are stuck on an Education Analytics screen (teal or blue color), please reach out to Rally support.

Where does the data come from?

Rally includes student academic performance data that has been authorized for sharing by your district or school. We are able to provide student data to educators by connecting to existing district systems as part of the on-boarding process. This includes data from the Student Information System (SIS), as well as historical and updated results from your interim and state summative assessments. Education Analytics has partnered with interim assessment vendors to incorporate this data and to receive updated data as frequently as possible during the school year. This ensures that you receive the most current and rigorous academic information about your students in ways that align to reports provided by your SIS and assessment vendors.

How are predictions made for students?

Predictions in Rally use historical interim and state summative assessment data to make predictions that are unique for each grade. While interim scores contribute to the predictions, the state summative scores have the strongest predictive power and carry more weight in the prediction models. As a result, predictions become more precise as we are able to incorporate more scores into the prediction model in later grades. We recalibrate our models regularly as samples change and predictions are updated throughout the year as additional assessment data is made available.

Why are there no predictions showing for my student(s)?

Predictions are not calculated or populated in Rally until we have a sufficient sample size of interim and summative scores for the student.

What should I do if data is missing or wrong for my students?

The data displayed in Rally comes from your state summative assessment, district interim assessments, Student Information System (SIS), and student well-being survey if your district administered the survey. Your district may not have completed every step in the process to incorporate all of these data elements. You may want to start by contacting your Rally District Administrator to understand where your district is in the process. If there are still identified data issues your District Administrator should contact their Rally support representative.

What should I do if students are missing from my roster?

Rally pulls from your district's Student Information System (SIS), so it is possible that your class roster has not been completely scheduled in the SIS. The preferred approach would be to update rosters in the SIS to ensure Rally is pulling in the most up-to-date information. If there are still identified data issues, your District Administrator should contact Rally support.

How can I get more information about the well-being survey?

For more information on the questions included in the well-being survey, as well as details on how to administer it, please reach out to your Rally support representative.

How are student data protected?

Rally facilitates efficient access and use of classroom and student-level data, but these data must also be protected. Rally’s technical system is designed to ensure security and compliance with data security and privacy laws, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). By requiring a connection to your school district’s identity provider and single-sign-on service, Rally ensures that your students’ data is secure and only shown to the appropriate educators.

Can I export or print data from Rally?

We do not currently support this, but we are considering the development of these features. Please use the “Support” link at the bottom of the page to let us know how these features would enhance your experience with Rally.

Supporting Teaching and Learning

How does Rally work with my other tools?

Rally can enhance how you use existing tools by offering a more complete set of information about a student’s attendance, academic performance, and well-being in one place. One of the ways Rally may differ from your other data tools is that predictions of student performance are based on comprehensive information about a student’s past performance, combining interim and state assessment data.

How can I use Rally to set goals for my students?

Rally can help you set goals for your students based on an understanding of their historical academic performance, integrated growth targets, and aligned predictions of their future academic performance based on similar students. On the student page, you can view a summary of the student in the At a Glance section, and get more detailed assessment performance in the Performance Over Time section. For many assessments, you can also see domain-level information and scores. This detailed information can inform goals for each individual student.

Classroom Page Features and Use

What information can I see about my entire class?

The classroom page offers summary information about your class's academic, well-being, and behavior data. There are four sections on the classroom page: at-a-glance, assessments, well-being, and behavior.

  • The at-a-glance section summarizes your class data on attendance, grades, behavior, assessment performance, and well-being while also showing useful information on programs.

  • The assessments section provides a more detailed look at assessment data for the class, allowing teachers to filter in numerous ways, compare to the district average, view sub-score detail, and view in a table format.

  • The well-being section provides a deeper view of well-being survey results for the class (if administered), allowing teachers to easily toggle between surveys, filter on question types, and view results for individual students.

  • The behavior section allows you to view behavior and incident data for the class, with the ability to easily filter on things like date range, student, and behavior type.

Student Page Features and Use

What information can I see about my students?

The student page shows a high-level student profile, while also offering detailed information about each student’s grades, attendance, assessment performance, and well-being. There are four sections in the student view: at-a-glance, assessments, performance over time, attendance, and well-being.

  • The at-a-glance section shows high-level information on grades, attendance, and behavior, while also showing details on the most recent assessments and well-being survey.

  • The assessments section provides a more detailed look at assessment data for the student, allowing teachers to see a more comprehensive assessment history, filter in numerous ways, view sub-score detail, and view in a table format.

  • The performance over time section shows historical state-equivalent interim assessment scores, as well as state summative scores for ELA and math. The graph also includes predictive scores based on historical performance. Note that scores that cannot be converted to the state test scale will not be included on this graph.

  • The attendance section shows year-to-date student attendance data in a calendar view for the student, while also providing summary information on absences of different types.

  • The well-being section shows more detailed data on the student’s responses to the well-being survey (if administered). This includes a summary chart at the top of the view, as well as answers for each question in the survey, below.

District and School Leaders

Where do class rosters come from and how do I change them?

The class rosters in Rally are created with data transferred from your Student Information System (SIS). Rally’s rosters will update whenever we receive new class, teacher, and student information. This could be as frequently as nightly depending on the connection method for your district. If roster data does not look right in Rally, the best approach is to correct the data directly in the SIS.

Can I view aggregated data for my entire school or district?

Rally does not include these features for a couple reasons:

  • Rally is focused on helping on-the-ground educators support particular students and classrooms. Administrative functions are better served by a different kind of platform, which Education Analytics provides via the Podium product. If your district does not have access to Podium, contact Rally support.

  • Rally’s assessment displays do not aggregate across grades. This is intentional to acknowledge that interim and summative assessments, even from the same vendor, may not be comparable across grades.

How do I add a new class to Rally?

Rally pulls from your district's Student Information System (SIS), so the preferred approach is to update the classes in the SIS to ensure that Rally is pulling in accurate information.

How do teachers get the proper role and permissions in Rally?

Administrators should not need to manage roles/permissions for teachers. If the teacher has enrollments in the SIS, they should be able to see those classes and associated rosters (and only those) in Rally.

How do I give access to other district-level administrators?

Admins can give access to other District-level users through the User Management application.

How do I give access to school-level administrators?

Admins can give access to school-level administrators through the User Management application.

I am a school or district leader and when logging in, I see a message that says “You don’t have data associated with your account. Please contact your system administrator.” What is going wrong?

Contact your District Administrator for Rally to request access. They will need to follow the steps shared in the two previous questions in this section.

Still Have Questions?

I have a question that is not in the FAQ, what should I do?
