Dashboard Information and Structure
Podium dashboards follow a consistent structure with cohesive and quick navigation. To follow along, please select the Enrollment dashboard as we guide you through each section.
About This Dashboard, Resources, Refresh, and Download
At the top of the page near the title, you’ll find About this Dashboard and Resources buttons. These open modals that provide helpful information about business rules, FAQs, and additional resources related to the dashboard.
About This Dashboard
When About this Dashboard is opened, it displays sections outlining the Dashboard Overview, Metric Definitions, General Business Rules, and any known Limitations. An example of this open modal is below.
Resources
When you open the Resources modal, you’ll find a link to the tutorial and another link to access support to troubleshoot dashboard issues.
Refresh and Download
On the far right-hand side, there is a three-dot menu. Selecting this menu reveals options such as Refresh Dashboard and Download. Use Refresh Dashboard to reset the filters and reload the data if it has become outdated. (Image below.)
The Download option lets you save the dashboard—using the current filters—as an image or PDF. (Image below.) Important: most dashboards contain personally identifiable information (PII), so download files to a secure location.
Chart Information
On each individual chart, there are multiple options to manipulate the chart.
Force refresh: Force Refresh to re-query the data and refresh the chart if the information has become outdated.
Enter full-screen: This allows you to expand any chart to full-screen. This may be helpful for a chart that has many items that are displayed (such as discipline codes) or for illustrating a specific point in a presentation.
You can contract full-screen by clicking the four arrows in the upper-right hand corner of the dashboard.
Show chart description: In addition to the overall dashboard description, each chart includes a brief overview explaining the data it presents and any key rules or definitions that apply. Select the three vertical dots at the upper right corner of a chart to view the chart description.
Please note that some of the chart descriptions can narrow the charts. We recommend hiding the chart description once you have the key information you need. An example below illustrates how to hide chart descriptions.
View as Table: If a visual is a chart, View as Table allows you to display the underlying data in a table format. This can be helpful for comparing across multiple groups or quickly making sense of the information.
Download: This allows you to have the ability to download the data behind the charts or the image of a chart for further analysis or to share insights. Download options are: Export to .csv, Export to Excel, and Download as an Image. Please remember that most of these dashboards contain PII, so you must download to a secure location.
Applied Filters
To the left of the three-dot menu, the number appears in the blue circle indicates how many filters are currently applied to the chart. Hovering over the circle reveals the specific filters and their selected values.
Contextual Information
The first row of most dashboards provides key contextual information about the data being presented. On the left, you'll typically find a date visual that indicates the most recent data available for the domain. For example, in the Enrollment dashboard, this reflects the most recent entry or exit event, while in the Discipline dashboard, it provides the latest recorded discipline event.
On the right, a table displays the filters currently applied to the dashboard. This is especially helpful when the filters panel is collapsed or when exporting the dashboard as a PDF, as it provides a clear record of the selected filters. A more detailed explanation of filters and how they work will be covered in the next section.
Key & District Metrics
The next section of Podium dashboards include Key & District metrics.
On most dashboards (other than Profile & Course), Podium will display a few metrics at the overall district level on the left-hand side. These metrics are available for both school and district users. They can be used as a helpful benchmark for the school level.
To the right, you'll always find a school-level table displaying key metrics, along with multiple charts that provide deeper insights—both over time and as of a specific date. This section can be used to quickly answer questions such as "How many students enrolled after the first day?" or "How many students have transferred this year?"
Student Information
The Student information table on the dashboards provides you with several data points on students. Depending on the dashboard, this information could include student entry or withdrawal date, race, cumulative attendance days, behavioral incidents, and more.
You can interact with the table in many ways to dive deeper into the data. To search for a specific student, select the three bars next to the column title. This will open up a modal that allows you to search for a student or apply a filter.
You can also apply a filter to any of the other columns. For example, if you only wanted to look at students who enrolled before 2024-01-01 in the table, you can select the entry date column and apply that filter.
By Student Groups
Below, the Student information table you will find charts that break down the data by student group. In the Enrollment dashboard, that will be broken down by the rate of student enrollment by grade level, gender, etc. If you are viewing the Behavior dashboard, these may show the discipline actions per student group.
